Hackathon Time

What happens when you trap a ton of nerds in an underground dungeon-like setting for 24 hours?

A hackathon!

Tara mentioned to some of her friends that I was at a hackathon over the weekend. They thought it was a Hack family get together. I wish! Too bad we are too far apart. (yup, I miss you fellow Hack’s).

So, I participated in the Tech Crunch Disrupt Europe Hackathon last weekend. I got to check 2 things off my bucket list before our little baby daughter is born. Attend a massive 500 person hackathon and build a health app. I got to do both in 1 weekend. Woohoo!

As some of you know, I used to be the iron man, so I thought building something around preventing iron illnesses would be pretty cool. I was lucky enough to find and work with 3 other amazing developers, so in 19 hours, we coded this: http://tinyurl.com/ironinblood. It’s an app that allows your monitor the iron levels in your blood. For all you geeks out there, we built an android app, a C# REST style web service, an OCR, and Web app in PHP/JavaScript.  For the rest of you, you just heard something like %&*#@&@()&$&@&*$&.

We didn’t win, but we got a high enough score by the judges to give us free tickets to the Tech Crunch Disrupt Conference worth £1100 a piece. So we got to see this:

Gota have a little fun. The Derp mascot tried to jump to high-five me, but it wasn’t working, so I had to help

Daylight

Ah, so this is what daylight looks like.
