It's kind of neat to just be wandering around and *bam* there's Big Ben.

The above were all pictures I took during our meander about the city.

Today was the celebration of Queenies birthday. There was an elaborate parade, which they call Trooping the Colour (not sure why). Phil and I actually didn’t plan on going to the parade, it just sort of happened. We were at Phil’s MRI appointment for his leg, which is really messed up. He can barely walk. Not sure what’s going on (whence the MRI). And yes, the appointment was on a Saturday and the offices were really nice. Back to parade – I had a reminder popped up on my phone (thank goodness I outsmart myself sometimes). So we walked to Buckingham Palace just as all the festivities were happening. And I saw Kate! And Harry! And Charles! And Camilla! And the Queen!

There were magnificent soldiers on horses. They even have a marching band on horses. Can you imagine riding a horse and playing an instrument? Talk about multi-tasking. My grandpa would be proud – they had sheepskins on many of the saddles. And you just have to love the outfits.

This is what they looked like as they passed us. We had Russian heads in front of us, so our pictures weren’t great. And a hilarious family behind us. “That is Kate. Isn’t she beautiful? And the two in the carriage behind, well, they have great personalities I’m sure [referring to Princess Beatrice and her sister Whats-her-name].” I’m not sure why William wasn’t in the carriage with Kate. I’m sure there’s a reason why he’s not with his 8 months pregnant wife. Then is started pouring rain so we went to Food for Thought (again!) and had a delicious lunch.

Apparently, the Queen used to ride on horseback. It would have made it easier to see her for sure.

  1. You were lucky to see Kate since I believe this is her last public appearance before baby comes. Kim Kardashian,a member of the US royal family, just had her baby, just as an aside. Sounds like you were at the right place at the right time, thanks to Phil’s knee. I don’t know who would be considered Canada’s royal family – the Trudeau’s, the Gretzky’s (accept they live in the States now), the Biebers (just kidding). I guess my vote would go to the Trudeau’s.
